I caught a poacher yesterday.
I got outside just in time to stop a heron fishing in the pond. Such a large bird when they spread their wings in flight. A lovely bird but not a pond keepers best friend. I have had them here before usually early morning or late evening, never had one land at 2 in the afternoon before.

Yes, they do look a lot larger when in flight - almost prehistoric.  We have a pair about somewhere, we have a small stream running along the back of us and we often see them in there, until they see us and then they are off !!

A heron is so lovely to look at - there's one that visits a field 'pool' at the Stables - not sure that there are any fish in there though!! Admittedly not a pond keeper's best friend.....
